About The Pennsylvania Federation of
Republican Women
The Pennsylvania Council of Republican Women was organized in 1923 in Harrisburg, PA, at the time women first received the right to vote.  With the aim of effectively organizing all Republican women in the state; the Council was formed on the keynote principles of individual freedom and personal initiative.

Since its inception the Council has served as a haven for all registered Republican women who are interested in good government and Republican ideals.  The aim was to bring all Republican women of the State, regardless of factions,  types and  temperaments into an effective organization.  There was no attempt to force antagonistic groups to work closely together in county units.  Any 25 (later changed to 10) Republican women could form a Local Council and affiliate directly with the State Council with the Approval of the Board of Directors.
During the 1960's membership in the PA Council reached its peak with 400 plus Councils and well over 60,000 members.  Since the 1970's membership has declined due, in part , to the many time restraints placed upon working women in two wage-earner households.  Membership is extremely important and is stressed at the annual Spring Conferences and is a top agenda item at all State Council meetings.  The PA Council is affiliated with the National Federation of Republican Women and enjoys all the benefits of membership in this outstanding national organization.

In May 1952 the State Council purchased a State Headquarters Building at 806 North Second Street in Harrisburg.  Through the contributions of  individuals and Local Councils the building's mortgage was satisfied on November 1, 1954.  The Council employs a part-time Administrative Assistant. Office hours are 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM three days a week and all Council members are encouraged to visit State Headquarters when they are in Harrisburg.

On Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the Annual Convention held in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the Bylaws were amended  by the voting body  to change the name of the organization fron the Pennsylvania Council  of Republican Women to the Pennsylvania Federation of Republican Women.  This change was transmitted to the National Federation and approved on October 25, 2006.

On February 5, 2007  our  name  was officially changed  by the PA Department of State to the Pennsylvania Federation of Republican Women. This name change process took place in order to indicate, by our name, the strength of the many coming together, united as  one,  to serve our organizational mission and purpose.

Today, a key goal of that mission is to continue to unite Republican Woman, keep them informed and empower them to have a voice in their government. Assisting, developing and supporting women candiidates is also an important aspect of  todays PFRW.  Please feel free to contact us for information regarding becoming a member, or for your convenience view
